Boo.

Happy Halloween!  Are you dressing up?  Your little people?  I'm not -- visiting my friend who just had a baby instead.  But to get in on the celebration, my favorite costumes from around the web:

Nicole Richie (and maybe her husband?  I can't tell) as Twins.

Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade: Photos
Bad pic, but fab costume: Jennifer Morrison as Cher Horowitz from Clueless.  I like to imagine that in this pic, she's just left the party because her dad demanded that she be home in twenty minutes BECAUSE EVERYWHERE IN LA TAKES TWENTY MINUTES.
Jennifer Morrison
Willie Geist from the Today Show dressed up as the Hof, which cracks me up (Matt Lauer's Pamela Anderson is just a little too much for me).
Willie Geist dressed as David Hasselhoff’s character Mitch Buchannon.
And the dog who won Halloween: Tottie the Pug in a Wrecking Ball outfit.  I can't stop laughing.
I hope you all eat too much candy.  XO.

Oh, cheerio. We're perfect, just in case you were wondering.

This isn't real, right?
Joyful: Prince George appears happy and healthy with his mother and father, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
I suppose that I should not be surprised that this woman's baby is adorable and perfect, given that she's jumping and playing volleyball in serious heels and all.  But really?  It's not enough that you're a princess?
Even the Queen is impressed.  She's like the opposite of McKayla Maroney.
Regal: (back row L-R) The Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry of Wales; (front row, L-R) Queen Elizabeth, the Duchess of Cambridge holding Prince George with the Duke of Cambridge
This photo of Her Maj gazing adoringly at George is just darling.  Well-played, Kate.  Well-played.

Jammies

Chilly fall temps have made me a sucker for cozy, comfy, sleep/loungewear that is probably best described as "man pajamas." (HOT, I know.)  Six cute sets for wearing whilst curled up on your couch with a fire, trashy television, and a cup of hot apple cider.  To put a super sexy fine point on it, crazy socks and giant robe are optional, but highly encouraged.

Nightshirt in end-on-end cotton

H&M Striped set, $24.95 (available in pink, too).
J. Crew nightshirt, $68 (now 25% off with code SHOPNOW; and you can get fancy and add a monogram for $10).

Shopbop sale

FYI: if you didn't max out your fall budget with Columbus Day sales, Shopbop is having a 25% off everything sale that ends today (use the code "INTHEFAMILY25").  Some goodies for getting this French-Vogue-editor-look, if you're interested:

A flowy silk blouse for work or play.
Slouchy-cool Current/Elliott tee ($$$ for a tee, but one of those basics you'd be so glad to have once you get over the initial sting).

Current/Elliott The V Neck Tee
Simple but perfect Clare Vivier clutch.
Striped, tweedy baseball tee, or a (less expensive) tweed sweater
Gray moto jeans with ankle zippers.
Simple kitten heel pumps in black or metallic silver.
And for the weekend or commuting, metallic Jeffrey Campbell loafers.
And some jackets, for what is fall without jackets?  This "vegan leather"* option is a steal, but if you can spend a bit more, the camel-and-black is a pretty awesome statement piece.

* Whoever invented the term "vegan leather" is a wordsmithery ninja.  Seriously, how much better does "vegan leather" sound than "pleather?"  Which we all know is exactly what it is.  Slow clap, wordsmithery ninja.

Your good news for the day.

On a day full of impending doom in the news, here's your happy for the morning:
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the Golden Globes again this year!  And, wait for it . . . the following year.  It's like Christmas came early.

Now if only we could put these two in charge of the debt ceiling and the shutdown, we'd really be in business.  (Second suggestion: Jed Bartlett.)

How to . . .

Every once in a while, it behooves a girl to brush up on how to deal with some of life's mildly unpleasant inevitabilities: spilled coffee, insects in your house, and your significant other doing generally mortifying things. Some advice from around the web for you:

How to get stains out of pretty much everything.  We all spill.  Some (i.e., me) more than others, but eventually, you're going to end up with deodorant on your black dress, red wine on your white jeans, or makeup in the bottom of your purse.  Arm yourself.  And if this list sounds daunting or you don't see your specific problem listed, bust out my weapon of choice.
Tina in Mean Girls - tina-fey Screencap

How to decorate your house cheaply and with minimal regrets.  Caution (and, you know, wisdom) dictates that the way to do this is slowly and over time, but naked walls and no place to sit start to grate on even the most prudent of us after a while.  Don't buy things you don't love, but sometimes, you need to love cheap things, right?
Living Room - A pierced gold chandelier suspended above a pair of Lucite chairs

How to get knots out of necklaces.  In lieu of leaving your tangled jewelry in the deepest recesses of your jewelry box, never to be worn again, give this a try.  Your neck will thank you.
Set of 3 Layering Necklaces, 14K Gold Filled, Tube Bar, Turquoise, Evil Eye

How to get rid of fruit flies.  Even the most cautious among us will find herself dealing with bugs at some point in her beautifully, previously, insect-free life.  Before you bust out the DEET and toss your produce, try this contraption.

How to cope when your spouse embarrasses you.  I can't get over the irony of the couple in this story -- the husband is embarrassed when his wife tells a bunch of friends about how they fooled around in the woods on a hike.  She apologizes and feels bad . . . and proves this by telling the Wall Street Journal?  I wonder how that conversation went.  And speaking of your spouse embarrassing you in the WSJ: this reminds me of the time my husband was in it.  IN A BACKWARDS BASEBALL CAP.

Saving grace: I wasn't there so I couldn't object.

Have you any tips to share?

Hope your week is off to a good start.

How's it going, friends?  Hope you're enjoying the fall weather (finally!).  I've been looking forward to busting out sweaters, jackets, and scarves for a while, so I am loving the cooler temps.  Also, I am ashamed to admit, I love fall television.  Try The Blacklist -- it's really good!  Are you watching anything good?  In between shows, a few links for your edification:

You really must try this season-appropriate, surprisingly difficult, quiz: Essie nail polish color or apple variety?

Cher Horowitz would be so proud (and twelve-year-old me is so jealous).

Speaking of our twelve-year-old selves, enjoy this 90210 fashion retrospective, for it is glorious.

I actually ate this for dinner last week.  I'm 10% ashamed, 90% glad I did it.  It was really good.

Hilarious thoughts on skiing.

iPhone post-its.

Chris March has done a line of wigs for Target.  They are very Chris March-y.

Chopping off all of your hair feels amazing, doesn't it?

Craigslist shopping

I've got a couple of house projects on the horizon that need to be done on a shoestring budget, so I've been trolling Craigslist lately.  As usually happens, I keep finding stuff I don't need and not finding anything that I'm actually looking for (and also, lots and lots of garbage).  Some of the highlights from the "stuff I don't need category" below; cross-listed with "things that the man you live with is 99% guaranteed to hate."

This dresser itself isn't particularly special for the price, but I'm a little bit in love with the drawer handles.  Repainted in black or shiny green, this would look awesome.

I never knew I needed a brass trunk.  But I do.  Oh, I do.

Perhaps this one instead.

If you're in the market for a new coffee table, this set of chrome cocktail tables is perfect and CHEAP -- $25!

A crazy (but awesome) Milo Bauhmann leather lounger, anyone?  (This purports to be authentic for $375, which would be a serious steal.)  You need the right place and the right style for this kind of thing, but they look so cool when they're well-placed.

This gray leather nailhead chair would be great for an office.

I could fill this brass bookshelf with all kinds of crazy lady trinkets.

Someone please, please buy this darling loveseat and let me come and visit it.  It's $200.

These Jenny Lind beds would be so cute in a kids' room -- like this one from Domino Magazine (which is BACK as of today!).

And finally, it wouldn't be Craigslist without some completely weird stuff.  The crown jewel: let's all try not to think about what this JAIL CELL DOOR might be destined for in the future.
