Have a lovely weekend!

Pinned Image
Happy Friday!  What are you doing with your weekend?  Our plans include watching Bottle Rocket (I've never seen it!), going to the pool, dinner with some fancy foodie work colleagues, our usual Sunday routine, and laughing at our dog, who has recently decided that our couch is the greatest place on Earth and we have rather stupidly done nothing to convince him otherwise.  Anything interesting up your collective sleeves, readers?  Hope it's a relaxing weekend for you and that you enjoy "just being."  Stay cool and enjoy the following that caught my eye this week.  See you Monday!

A gorgeous house featured in Lonny.

Something you probably didn't know: there is a nude beach in Wisconsin.  Shenanigans have ensued.

Itsy bitsy teeny . . . man swimsuits?

According to The New York Times, this image of Daniel Craig has brought back tiny swim trunks for men.  I don't know about you, but I don't keep the company of any guys who are quite brave enough to sport these just yet.  This still looks pretty European to my modest Midwestern sensibilities!  What do you think?  Do you know any dudes ready to embrace their inner Bond, James Bond?

Sunday routine

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, has gotten a massage every Sunday at 6 pm for the last 27 years.  Isn't that kind of mind-blowing?  (Also kind of mind-blowing: before she was the Barefoot Contessa, she was a nuclear energy budget analyst for the Carter administration.  What??)
Gimme gimme gimme!!!
While my Sunday routine (unfortunately) doesn't involve massages, we've settled into a nice summer rhythm at our house.  Sleeping late, egg sandwiches at home, and then walking the dog while we collect our beverages: my cafe au lait from Heritage Bikes and Coffee, and my husband's Coke from Chipotle (oh yes, Chipotle: he's a Coke connoisseur, and swears that theirs is the best).  Then we drop the tired little dude at home, bike over to the lakefront, lust after our favorite boats, and read the paper.
Later in the afternoon, we swing by the grocery store on our way home and get stuff for dinner.  We've been grilling a lot of fish lately, which fools me into feeling virtuous after indulging in delicious-but-terrible-for-me-food all weekend.
Only problem: after lazing about all day on Sunday, my evening spirals out of control and I try to smash in all the annoying things that I should have been doing earlier (putting away a weekend's worth of discarded outfits, packing lunch, cleaning out the coffee pot for Monday morning, etc.), and I finish my relaxing Sunday at midnight, like a crazy woman.  Oh well.  I feel like the awesome day that precedes the insanity is totally worth it.

Do you have a Sunday routine?  What's your favorite part?  And do you have a way to prevent Sunday night panic?

Ashley Goldberg

Artist Ashley Goldberg has an etsy shop that's full of her illustration and typography prints, but the abstract paintings that she posted to her blog blew me away.  Aren't these beautiful?  I love the colors.

I'm trying to find "real" art to hang in our home, but it's hard: I can never find any kind of sizable piece that I like that doesn't cost a small fortune, which is how we've ended up with approximately fifty tiny framed objects on our wall.  It's sort of exhausting to look at.  Do you have that problem?  Any good sources for art?  (Follow-up question: how does everyone else find such amazing paintings at flea markets and thrift stores, and all I find are velvet Elvises and souvenir posters from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics?)

Friends Dress Alike

Have you ever noticed that friends dress alike?  My mom always used to say that whenever she saw people in a group wearing similar outfits, and it's so true: it starts with teenagers who desperately want to fit in and then it never changes!  I got a beer with my husband and our friend last night, and the boys were both wearing the same Brooks Brothers non-iron shirt and pants (to their credit, in ever-so-slightly-differing patterns and colors).  And as with all mom-isms, I hear my mom's voice saying "Friends dress alike!" whenever I see it.

So of course, my inner mom voice was shouting when I saw these two on the Fourth of July:
Matching black v-neck dresses?  Hot pink totes?  Sandals?  Check, check, and check.  And you know they didn't plan this -- it just happens!  I got a good giggle from seeing these ladies (and the text I got back from my mom after I sent her this picture was "I just laughed a belly laugh, and it was a big one," which made me laugh even more).

I thought to myself that Friends Dress Alike would be a hilarious Tumblr, and it turns out that like most of my ideas that start off with "that would be a hilarious ___," someone else already thought of it.  And I was right: it is, in fact, a hoot.
sometimes friends dress alike at a baby’s birthday party.sometimes friends dress alike in a brewery.sometimes ladies dress alike at the pool.
Do you ever show up somewhere dressed like your friends?  It happens to me all the time!

PS: Lena Dunham and her friend dress alike.
